In 2013 I challenged myself to surf Mavericks – a world famous wave in Central California that can reach 60ft in size.
I have been surfing for close to 20 years but most of it has been in smaller 2-6ft high waves. Recently I had been surfing larger waves and wanted to push my limits.
I successfully surfed a ~20ft wave there on January 26, 2014 – below are a few photos and some blog posts I wrote during the process.
I’m the yellow board on the far left in this first picture – that is the safest spot to sit (aside from not being there at all, I guess) and I was still pretty timid.
