Yearly Focus

2021 Focus: Three Quarter Year Update

Better every year. That is my goal. I believe that through focused effort I can keep improving and ensure my best years are still in front of me.
With that in mind, at the start of a new year, I take the time to set my focus for the coming year. By being selective about where I direct my energy, I can achieve results that are exponentially greater than if I split my attention.

I detailed my 2021 focus here (read that first if you want more context) & did a quarter year and half year update as well. Here is how I’m progressing.

2021 Theme: Together

2021 Challenge: Setup A Contact Reminder System

I made zero progress here in Q3, I need to test out the second app I identified.

2021 Habit: Weekly Reach Out

I was only 9 for 13 in Q3. Three of those weeks were when I was sick/recovering from COVID and reaching out to people just wasn’t on my mind. Other than those, things have been going pretty well. Again, a few reach out have turned into video calls, other meetups for a drink or run and some just kind of go nowhere, which is fine. I’m finding Facebook messenger to be a more reliable way to get a hold of people than LinkedIn and email works fine but is kind of heavy and it takes people longer to get back than a simple text.

2021 Exemplar: Brené Brown

I finished Brené’s book and have her podcast flagged to listen to.

2021 Bucket List Item: Run the Cascade Crest 100 in Under 24 hours

I ended up dropping out of the Cascade Crest 100 at mile 35. The situation was a bit of bad luck, but alas, I didn’t even finish the race, let alone hit my goal of 24 hours.

I do plan to do a 24 hour max-steps attempt at the end of October and based on how that goes and how I recover, I might have another 100 mile effort in me before the end of the year. The Cascade Crest course won’t really be an option since it will be snowed in, but I set the goal of ‘or equivalent’ for this year to give myself some wiggle room if the race course or day didn’t work. I might see if I can find myself another good 100 mile course that will be nice in mid-late December.
