Yearly Focus

2024 Focus: End of Year Review

Better every year. That is my goal. I believe that through focused effort I can keep improving and ensure my best years are still in front of me.

With that in mind, at the start of a new year, I take the time to set my focus for the coming year. By being selective about where I direct my energy, I can achieve results that are exponentially greater than if I split my attention.

More details about the process are in this blog post and you can review the results from past years here.

2024 Theme: Movements

Self Grade: 10/10

I read a few books about the topic to help inform my thinking and ideas I put into practice.

2024 Challenge: Launch a Free Community Workout

Self Grade: 10/10

The workout I helped start, F3 Rat City is going strong. We’ve been getting 6-10 guys out every week to workout and we’ve also seen a lot of guys come up to our Hiawatha location. There is a nice intermingling.

I handed off leadership of the site to two other guys who are going to do a great job carrying it into the future.

2024 Habit: Invite Someone To Get More Involved in F3

Self Grade: 5/10

I was successful on 50% of weeks this year. Unfortunately my track record got worse as time went. A big part of that was that I got injured and worked out less, so was less eager to invite people to join.

2024 Exemplar: Sojourner Truth

Self Grade: 5/10

I read a biography about Truth, but didn’t do much else.

2024 Bucket List Item: Complete the Murph in <45 Minutes

Self Grade: 5/10

I was able to finish the workout, but not in the time I had hoped. I got injured after Memorial Day and wasn’t able to recover and train enough to do it again.

That said, doing a weighted Murph without kipping is a difficult task, so I remain proud of my finish time of 58 minutes and 19 seconds.
